Hot chocolate reboot

It’s after Thanksgiving and the time for me to decorate and start getting ready for Christmas. Those of you who know me know that last Christmas was interesting to say the least and difficult so a lot of it is a blur. For that reason, I am striving to make this Christmas a memorable one! What goes better with listening to Christmas music and putting up Christmas decorations than hot chocolate? Nothing! Here’s my hot chocolate reboot. It’s dairy-free and low in sugar and it has all the nutritional benefits of cacao. Cacao is rich in magnesium, dietary fiber and antioxidants, just make sure you don’t get the processed stuff! You can add things like cinnamon or a smidge (make sure it’s small) of cayenne pepper to make it a Mexican hot chocolate.

Hot Chocolate Reboot(makes 1 serving)

Ingredients:

8 oz. almond milk, cashew milk or coconut milk (or feel free to use regular dairy milk)

10 semisweet chocolate chips (use dairy-free if making this dairy-free)

1 tbsp cacao powder (not cocoa…cacao will give you the nutritional benefits of the cacao bean)

10 drops liquid stevia

1/4 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp pure maple syrup

Directions:

1. Heat milk over low-medium heat until it lightly bubbles (do not boil).

2. Add remaining ingredients and whisk briskly until the chocolate is melted and all the other ingredients are incorporated and the liquid is foamy.

3. Pour into your cup and enjoy!
